Stinkhorn (Phallus impudicus) is a mushroom of the Phallus genus popularly known as fat of the Earth. This mushroom is common in Europe, North America and Eastern countries, China, India, Taiwan. It is mostly found in deciduous forests in July - September.

Despite its strong smell it is not poisonous and the inner layers of the young mushroom can be eaten raw with a radish-like taste and crunchy texture. This mushroom is especially popular in France sold raw or pickled and is also used in sausages in Germany. According to historical sources in Lithuania this mushroom was usually eaten raw with sour cream seasoned with salt and pepper. Infusions with vodka or wine were also made and dried for the winter. In Montenegro bulls were anointed before the bullfight to make them stronger.

Research teams supervised by Dr. Kuznetsov's research paper titled "Phallus impudicus as a prophylaxis of thrombosis in breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and hormone therapy." His results showed that lady's wort extract can be used to reduce venous thrombosis by inhibiting the level of platelet aggregation. It is also recommended to be used prophylactically to enrich the daily diet.
