Cleaning Your Barbecue with Black Soap
Summer's finally here, and with it, the season of barbecues with family and friends! However, after the feasting comes the less enjoyable task: cleaning the grill. Whether you use a traditional charcoal grill, an electric, gas, or even a solar-powered one, proper maintenance is crucial to ensure its longevity and healthy food on your plate.
When you decide to clean your barbecue, the first step is to remove the accumulated grease from the grates. One of the top tips for this is regularity! We advise you to scrub the grease and food residue off your grill with a steel or brass brush while it's still very hot, right after each use.
Step 1: Remove Grease and Residue
To remove the grease that has built up during cooking, we recommend using a brush. If you don't have one, your best ally is newspaper.
After you've finished grilling, let the grates cool down a bit. Then, gather a few sheets of newspaper and rub them over the grates to remove the residue. This will lift the initial layer of grease and food particles, preparing the grill for a deeper clean.
Step 2: Baking Soda and Black Soap for a Thorough Clean
Once your barbecue grates are free of the initial grime from brushing or using newspaper, you can move on to the deep cleaning phase.
You'll need:
-
A basin of hot water
-
A sponge
-
Baking soda
-
Black soap
This time, it's important to let the barbecue cool down completely before using the sponge.
-
Mix 1/2 liter of fairly hot water with 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of black soap.
-
Dampen your sponge with this mixture and rub the grates. If the grates are very dirty, let them soak for a few minutes.
-
Rinse with clean water, then dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Step 3: Maintenance with White Vinegar
This step doesn't need to be done every time you clean, but we recommend polishing the grates with white vinegar after you've finished cleaning.
It couldn't be simpler: put a little white vinegar on a dry cloth, then rub the grates. This will leave the surfaces free of impurities and sparkling clean.
Now you know all our tips for effectively and naturally cleaning your barbecue with minimal effort!
